You may have noticed that I now have some product ads here on Plannerisms. A few days ago I finally decided to monetize my blog. I had been holding off for various reasons: partly because I didn't want anyone to think I'd lost my impartiality. Mostly because, until recently, I didn't know of any way I could choose only the exact products I wanted to advertise on my blog.
Recently, Amazon started an associates scheme with Blogger that allows this exact thing. I can choose any Amazon product, sold by them or a third party, and advertise only the products that I hand-select.
So now you can find products, chosen by me, advertised via Amazon in three different places on my blog:
In the sidebar you will see images and links for products that I want to feature in particular. Right now you can see three of my favorite academic-year planners that are currently available: Plan-It planners (with their pretty new Paisley Bird cover), Dodo Acad-Pads in their new Filofax format, and the ever-popular Moleskine 18 month weekly notebook planners.
Also in my sidebar just above "Email me" you can see Products I Recommend. If you click there, it will take you to a page where you can click through to see a larger selection of products I think are really good. All of these are products that I have either actually used, or are from brands I really like. Right now you can see a selection of Dodo Pad planners and organizers, more Plan-It planners, lots of Moleskine planners and notebooks, and several Leuchtturm products.
And, when appropriate, you can see product images and links embedded directly in my posts. This last one is something I've always done, and will continue to do especially in product reviews. This is a great way to link directly to the Amazon page so you can be certain you are getting the exact product I'm talking about.
If I make any money at all with this, it will be gravy. Really I'm doing it as a convenience for myself and my readers who are interested in finding products tested and approved by a self-proclaimed planner and notebook geek.
Also I want to point out that because this is an Amazon program, I can only advertise products sold through Amazon. There are plenty of other planner and notebook brands that I think are fantastic and I would love to advertise, but they are not sold through Amazon and I'm too technologically-challenged to figure out how to advertise those directly. So just because I endorse a particular product doesn't mean I'm specifically NOT endorsing other products. Does that make sense?
Anyway, it's all good, and it's in the name of fun and convenience. If you have recommendations for other products you think I should feature, please let me know! :)
