Free For All Friday No 35: How's it going?

How is everybody doing these days? May is a deceptively busy month for many people: graduations, school year coming to a close (depending on where you live), work getting busy, summer vacations coming up.

Do you have anything big happening this month? How is your planner handling it?

And as always on Fridays, feel free to discuss and/ or ask anything planner-related!

  1. Oh, boy! This has definitely been a doozy of a month - but it's all small stuff - there's just a ton of it. I'll be so glad when May is done.

My planner is helping but I'm still not committed to one format so that makes it a little tricky. But still - what I'm doing is better than nothing.

I think I've finally decided that it's not really the planner's fault; it's not even my crazy life. I think at this point I'm just tired of it. I don't want to make lists or follow a schedule. All the years that my kids were at home when I was managing the home and homeschooling them, I worked really, really hard at holding everything together (ADHD makes it especially challenging). And now I'm just tired. I don't want to do it anymore. I just want to wing it a little. You've suggested to me several times that a weekly calendar might work better for me and I'm thinking on that. I would still have a record of everything but I could do tasks when I wanted to instead of on a set day (unless it requires a set day, of course - but most of my stuff doesn't). It would allow me to have structure but freedom, too. The only complication is that I use my planner for a journal and a record of events and phone calls, etc. so I'd have to figure out a different way to do that. There's not room on those weekly pages.

    2. As you know I struggled with this issue for years. I need weekly to plan, but daily (at least one page, often more) to record. I don't think there's any good way to do it. What I do is use monthly for far-ahead planning, and weekly for the next couple of months. Once I have transferred the info from my monthly pages to weekly, I don't use the monthlies to plan ahead anymore, just the weeklies. Then each day I start a new blank page, and don't look at the weekly page for that day anymore.

  2. Since I retired some time ago, one month was, until recently, much the same as another. However, since we started helping our son, by getting our grandson to school in a morning and picking him up in the afternoon, things can get to be quite busy. In addition, our daughter has temporarily moved back home, and having just got a new puppy, there are times when life is somewhat hectic! With all this going on, and the organising that is sometimes required, my pocket Filofax is straining under the pressure. Additionally with my memory problems, (due to a medical condition), I cope by using the Filofax in conjunction with various apps on my Google mobile to keep me in check.

One thing for certain, my shopping list this year will include a Plannerisms Planner, a gift to me, from me!

    1. Thanks Tom! I hope the Plannerisms planner will work well for you. The 2015s will be available later in the autumn.

  3. I'm in the San Diego area. Our extensive and maddening winds, heat and wildfires have ramped up my sense that security is an illusion. So I'm concentrating on my emergency preparedness plans and making sure my FC compact has a complete grab and go reference section. Have decided to dump all my work planning into Outlook (have just started my busy full time gig for a few months) and keep folded printouts of those lists and calendars in my compact. I knew this would be a crazy time months ago but never thought it would be quite this nuts.
