Did you ever want a planner just because of how it looks?

Boy am I guilty of this, bigtime. There are certain planners I like and want, not because I think they will work well for me (in fact some don't work for me at all), but it's all about how they look.

The biggest one in this category for me is day per page planners. I just love how they look, all chunky and like there must be lots of important stuff written in there. Despite trying many times over the years, I just can't use them as my planner. I need a week view. But I was hugely successful in 2013 jumpstarting my journaling by using a dated day per page diary. I've since switched to undated notebooks for journaling, but still gaze longingly at day per page diaries from time to time.
I love how these look!

I think most of us who have ever used a Filofax have desired one (or several) based on their appearance only. To our credit, that is half the point of the variety of Filofax binders available. I actually use binders more based on how they feel (like the delightful oiled leather of my brown Kendal) than how they look. But I do adore my gorgeous ivory Deco for its sheer decadence.

C'mon, fess up: have you ever wanted a planner just because of how it looks?

  1. Guilty! I love bound books with all the wonderful colors and designs. I have a red Chameleon pocket FF, which I think is beautiful, sitting in its box.

  3. Guilty, too!!! I found out over the years (although I always ´knew`) that ring-bound works best for me - but I love, love, love the look&feel of bound books and especially day-per-page books, too.... Oh, the gorgeous Moleskine-Peanuts, -Mickey Mouse etc. editions, the QuoVadis paper, the cool Hobonichi, the....... Every year I fall in this trap and buy one (or two) and by Mid- February (latest!) I am back in my Filofax. And I also love leather (touch and smell) which seems really strange for someone who does´t even eat meat....

  7. Me too, definitely! This is the big reason I still want a Filofax Baroque. And like Sari, I love bound notebooks. Just yesterday I finally found a Moleskine Hobbit limited edition boxed version :)

  8. Confession time: There is a mint green bound planner at my local Walmart and I want it so bad. It's faux-Hobonichi style and they used to have a bunch of them but now it's down to one. I look at it every time I go in there, hoping that someone else has bought it. Also mint green is the brand name, all lower case and no spaces, but blogger won't let me type it that way.

    2. Mint Green is the Walmart-exclusive line of the Green Room planners. Target carried them the last two years, but not for 2015. The layout is decent, but the paper quality is lower in the new Walmart version. I have several of the 5x8 spiral notebooks from Target, which they are still carrying. They fit nicely in an old Coach planner cover I have.

  9. I LOVE the look of Paperblanks notebooks and planners, but I can't get on with their wide ruled pages, they just make my handwriting terrible! But if they made grid notebooks... I'd buy them all!!

  10. Well, of course. And maybe because of how it feels, too.

  13. I've absolutely bought planners and notebooks for their looks more than their function. At least with the notebooks I'll eventually get around to using them. With a dated planner, it's basically a waste. Bought the Minnie Mouse Moleskine because I loved the polka dots, but haven't journaled in it like I hoped.

And there are a couple Filofax binders I'm hanging onto because I love their look/feel, even though they failed as a my daily carry. I'm currently unable to let go of my teal Bloomsbury Personal, tomato Pocket Bloomsbury and coral Piazza Personal, even though I'm pretty sure I"m sticking with my A5 Boston with custom inserts.

With Filos, the rareness factors in. I know I'll never see these ones again if I sell them.
