Two week evaluation: How's your planner working for you?

Now that we are a couple of weeks into the year, you've got an idea of how well your planner is functioning for you.

Is it working well?  Needs some tweaking? Or is it a Planner Fail and you're on the search for something else?

I don't want to cause a panic, but if you need a different planner be sure to grab it now while you can. Many brands/ styles of planners are already sold out (including the WeekDate weekly planners and some Moleskine sizes and formats). And once we get into March-April (aka the Planner Dry Season), they get really scarce and you have to wait until the academic year planners start in the summer!

So what about you? Are you happy with your setup, or searching for something else?

  1. I am really happy with mine. Am using day-timer week to view Flavia for day to day/planning/to do etc and I have a moleskine pocket daily for my journal :) xx

  2. So sad! I ordered a journal j from eBay and it got lost in the mail once and it looks like it is lost a 2nd time!

  3. I am quite happy with my day per page (about 3 months worth at a time) and month on two pages vertical tabbed in my filofax. I am finding the day pages get rather cluttered and am trading a few weeks of day per page for 2 pages per day with @bluebonnettreads to see if either of us love the other option better. We'll see. I am also carrying a Clairefontaine notebook for journaling. I believe its called the "basics series", a plain black notebook with cardboard covers and an elastic band closure

  4. So far so good, am just loving the planning sessions with my plannerpad. I feel completely on top of everything! Also am using Day Timers self-stick hot lists to cover extra busy days and special projects that span the week end (for me, Sunday-Monday). And have a filofax binder with daytimer inserts for shopping lists, menu planning and contacts.

  5. I've already had a bit of planner fail - the Filofax 2ppd weren't working for me, much as I loved the to-do list section. I've switched to weeklies for now, and that's working pretty well. I'm going to trade pages with Josh, as he mentioned above. :)

As for the rest of it, I've pulled out some old planners to get fresh ideas. I'm considering putting all the household things in their own binder, or perhaps using the Peanuts daily Moleskine planner as a logbook....In other words, everything is all up in the air!

  6. I had major planner fail with the Trinote :o( As great as it is, it just wasn't turning my crank.

So, I've gone back to Filofax. I did change things up a bit--I ordered the tabbed monthlies (for work dates and dates work pays out, etc.) Then I already had the week on 2 pgs-I'm using that for appointments, reminders, etc.

Then I bought 2pgs/day and I'm LOVING this format! There's room for some journaling about daily events, room for to-do's, room for gratitude lists--I might have found a format that works for me--maybe lol

PLUS everything (I use my FF as a wallet also) is in ONE book all together!! For now--it's working--sshhh...;o)

  7. I'm loving my set up- using Franklin Covey tabbed monthlies (whole year) and three months of FC dpp. It's the perfect blend of space, layout, and design that I'm looking for!

I've also added a card holder for store discount cards, which is keeping the front of my binder much more organized and clear!

  8. My big disaster is the non-planner parts of my filofax, which are becoming a huge jumbled mess of information, to do notes, goals, meeting notes, seeds to order, trade names, ideas, etc. Need to figure out a way to file these in a coherent system which is easy to maintain on the go.

  9. I've left my Filofax for Moleskine (week+notes XL), and LOVE it. I love the large pages, which I missed in my Filofax, plus A5 was too heavy for my needs. I carry a Moleskine notebook for notes & use my planner for everything else. So far, this system's been working for me for a whole 3 weeks. I just miss the leather of the Malden.

  10. I am moving from a pocket FF into a large weekly Moleskine (week + notes) this afternoon. I love the pocket size, the month on two page, and the lists sections in my FF but the weekly/daily or whatever pages just don't work. I will really, really miss my little pewter butterfly -- and I got the red Mole as I really like the color!

  11. I am not happy at all because my inserts have not arrived from the UK yet.I am having to use inserts from an Australian Company to keep me going until my Filofax Horizontal inserts arrive. I hope it will be soon. I am in a small town in the north of South Australia and I have to send away for everything. ApArt from inserts my system is working well for me since I only use my Filofax to record dates I get called in and to make sure I get paid.

  12. I was back and forth from a large moleskine daily diary for everything (teaching+ personal)to moleskine for work and compact filofax for personal stuff. Now I decided to try my finsbury pocket as a wallet plus some notes(shopping lists, expenses) and moleskine for everything. I hope this works!

  13. Mine is working well so far. I usually use an A5 Filofax because it holds everything perfectly and I can add and remove things at will BUT I work in the field and have developed back problems from lugging so much around with me every day.

So this year I am using a Legami A4 week to view(page a day planner. It has week to view calendar on the top half of the page and page a day notes on the bottom half. The pages are split so the top half stays the same and you can flip through the bottom half. I am using the notes section for to dos and for journalling and the top half for appointments.

I expected planner fail as it is an Italian system that I stumbled across at Johannesburg airport and is different from anything I have used before but it is working beautifully.

I have a purple and red one but they come in the most gorgeous jewel colours. Looks much like a Moleskine.

  14. Very happy so far. Using a large Moleskine Daily for appointments, to-dos, and tracking healthy habits.

Thought seriously about getting something else but stuck with this. The Daily is easy to customize into diff sections on each day/page which is what I need.

  15. Decided to sideline my 20-yr habit of Franklin Compact 2ppd and try a 5x8" daily diary from Leuchtturm. I thought it was going to be a major failure but I'm coming around . Instead of forcing it to confrom to me, I'm enjoying the opportunities it presents for unstructured notes and scrawls. The design and format leave much to be desired (needs 30 min. divisions, some light gray lines for to-do and note areas but rest of the ink is too light and Sat and Sun are squished onto a single page). I hacked an old Readers' Digest condensed book to hold a 3/4" 6-ring binder for all of my looseleaf accessories and necessities.

  16. I switched from Filofax to Moleskine in order to use the new XL Taskmaster version. So far it is working great! I have lots of room for recording daily schedule and then great space for To Dos. One thing I found out last year in using Prenote for a while is that I really like all my weekly To Dos together but I just needed more space - this Moleskine really has space! I've also added a couple of pockets and stickers to personalize it.

  17. I'm using the Planner Pad executive wire bound in a beautiful Italian leather cover, I also have a large Moleskine, week on a page with notes...... for my notes! Seems to be working wonderfully. It's a shame some of us found the Filofax brand so annoying in that they worry more about the cover than the content. I think both are equally important.
Well as I said before, my small purchases never added up to their "big picture" so listening to me would have been a mute point on their part.
To each their own, but Franklin and Filo have much to learn. Franklin seems has gotten away from being Franklin and has moved more toward training and selling to Walmart. (365 binders) Filo seems to be moving ever so farther toward the female side, so all you men out there, if you didn't purchase a "Scanda" your pretty much sunk.

  18. I see several comments here from people who have or are moving FROM Filofax TO Moleskine. I am contrmplating the exactl same thing. I currently use a Pocket Malden but I find I carry around loads of stuff i have no use for out of the home - recipes, quotes, info, notes, lists etc etc. I am thinking of getting a pocket Moleskine daily and then a A5 Filo to keep all that other stuff at home and add things like wish lists or things from magazines (decor I like/tips/items i may one day want to order). The only thing holding me back is that my Filo is also my wallet and i know a Mole cant become a wallet as well.....still undecided. But Filo dont make cotton cream DPP insters and their line spacing is SO narrow I cant write on it and the rigs get in the way...still not sure tho....
