How is your planner working for you?

Now that we are more than a month into 2010, you've had time to evaluate how your planner is working for you.

I know there are some of you out there who are Calling The Dog between planner formats and/ or sizes. Have you made a decision yet about which is working better for you?

Especially those of you who are using a new planner system (or the opposite, whose lives are significantly different now than they were last year) may have needed an adjustment period to get the hang of your new planner situation.

So how is it going? Is your planner working well for you? Or are there gaps in its performance? Maybe it works well for you at work, but falls flat on personal organization. Or vice-versa. Let us know what's working, what's not working, what's okay but could be better, and what's a total planner FAIL.

(And for those of you who are experiencing planner frustration, hang on. Next week I will discuss a planner system that could be a solution for you!)

  1. I moved away from a hybrid system of a classic Franklin-Covey planner and OmniFocus to a Classic Personal Filofax. I love the Personal! It's so much easier carrying around a smaller planner and I can't imagine ever going back to the larger system.

Challenge: I have so many tasks that it's harder to capture them all in the Filofax. I use the GTD methodology and I have some big projects with multiple independent next actions on the go right now. Thinking through how to move the larger projects out of the Filo and into OmniFocus instead, with only the Project name and very next action in the Filo.

  2. I've been using my Slimline Filo since before Christmas and I'm surprised at how well it's working for me. I'm very choosy about what I carry in it - I have to be since it doesn't hold that much. I do use a regular personal size to keep everything else that I need at home. But once in a while I long to use the personal at all times again since I can then have everything with me at all times and not have to go back and forth between two. It's that catch-22 - I use the slimline so I don't carry what I don't need but long for the ability to do so that the personal size allows for. The slimline is way easier to carry with me though, so for the foreseeable future, I will keep with using both...
